Strokes occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts or gets clogged. If you have any of the warning signs of stroke call 911 immediately. Seconds could be the difference between life and death.

♥ African Americans are twice as likely to die from stroke as Caucasians.
♥ Every 45 seconds someone in America has a stroke.
♥ When suffering from a stroke, 32,000 brain cells die every second. That calculates to nearly 2 million brain cells every minute.
♥ One half of all African American women will die from stroke or heart disease.
♥ There are over 4 million stroke survivors today.
♥ About 700,000 Americans will have a new or recurrent stroke this year and over 163,000 of them will die.
♥ Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the USA.
♥ African Americans have the highest risk of stroke compared to any other ethnicity.
♥ The impact of strokes on our economy is estimated to cost between $50-$70 billion per year.
♥ There are approximately 266,000 stroke survivors with permanent disabilities.
♥ African Americans aged 35–54 years old have four times the relative risk for stroke.
